For anyone that doesn’t know Bart, he was born 2 months prematurely at just 3 pounds and 1 ounce. Due to his premature birth, his lungs were not developed and he was put into an incubator. Unfortunately for Bart, he received too much oxygen during his time in the incubator. This caused severe damage to his retinas, which resulted in a visual impairment.
Despite the setback, Bart never let this get in the way of his passion for cars. In 1993, after numerous problems with his landlord, Bart decided it was time to buy his own shop. It was at this time that Bart opened the doors to his current shop at 11501 S. Ridgeland Avenue, Alsip, IL.

For the past 10 years, Bart has been talking about restoring his 69 Dodge Dart. Once restored, he hopes to have the opportunity to finally drive his dream car. However, after the financial collapse in 2008, the “Dart fund” quickly became the “Bart fund”. This meant investing in his business instead of his Dart and his dream to drive it.
Bart’s son, Brendan, knows just how important the experience of driving a car is to his father. While in the process of looking for sponsors for this project, Mercedes Benz heard about this and wanted to help in any way that they could. They contacted Brendan about giving Bart the experience of a lifetime, and on November 3rd, 2018 Bart finally had the opportunity to drive a car.
